This program is designed to introduce young children (ages 4-6) to local history. Children learn about Wilmette’s namesake first family, the Ouilmettes. The program includes a read-aloud story, a short museum tour, and a coloring project.
Fee: $25 per class or free for Organization Members.
Second and Third Graders: “Wilmette Then and Now”
(75 minutes)
An introductory slideshow about Wilmette history begins the program looking at similarities and differences between the past and present. Next, students tour the museum with one of our expert guides. Learn about the history of the museum’s landmark building, the former Gross Point Village Hall, see the jails, and hear about Native Americans and early settlers. For pre-museum visit activities, please see the Teacher Resources page.
