Have you ever heard of Snowflake Bentley? He was the first known person to photograph snowflakes and prove that no two are alike. Mr. Bentley needs more snowflakes to photograph. Join our scavenger hunt to find them! Head out with your family and enjoy some history and embark on a fun search around Wilmette to help Mr. Bentley. Starting on Sunday, December 3rd, kids aged 13 and younger can pick up a free scavenger hunt board at the Wilmette Historical Museum or the Youth Services Department at the Wilmette Public Library to get started. You can also download a copy of the booklet here.

The scavenger hunt can be completed at your own pace from December 3, 2023 through February 15, 2024. When you spot a snowflake at a participating location, get a signature, stamp, or sticker from an employee. If you collect at least 5 signatures/stamps/stickers, you can enter into a raffle to win your very own copy of Jacqueline Briggs Martin’s book Snowflake Bentley! If you get all 10 signatures/stamps/stickers, you will receive a coupon for a free sprinkled cookie from Buck Russell’s!

All are welcome, regardless of scavenger hunt participation, to come to the museum on Tuesday, February 20th for a live reading of Jacqueline Briggs Martin’s book Snowflake Bentley to learn more about Mr. Bentley’s amazing work and early photography! There will also be treats and other crafts/activities to enjoy. Check back soon for more details about this fun event!
